![]() ![]() ![]() Doing dim sum is so much better in a group setting because each can order one or two items and everyone can sample from each. Plated items are $6 and dumpling tins are $3 a tin. You could pay close to $20 just on three items. The only downside to dining dim sum is not knowing how much plated items are and how much the dumplings are. I was fortunate enough to be up close to get photos. As is customary with cultural traditions the dragon dancers enter the building and the business owners give dragons gifts in red envelopes as well as leave offerings of lettuce and oranges (symbolic for money and success) to appease the dragons and deities to ensure a prosperous new year. Eventually the procession entered the restaurant then the banquet hall. While I was dining, I heard the dragon procession approaching the restaurant. I really liked the shrimp over the shumai probably because I rarely get to eat pork. Then I selected two tins of dumplings one was shrimp and the other was pork shumai. Empire Garden serves such exotic foods as deep fried scorpions. Upon looking over the tray, I noticed something unusual. I immediately went for the salt and pepper shrimp. A lady came by with a tray that had various shellfish. There are staff that carry trays with an assortment of plates of a la carte items and there are staff that come around with carts that carry an assortment of dim sum dumplings. After climbing stairs to the dining hall level, you are escorted into the banquet hall. Situated in an old Belle Epoque theatre, Empire Garden is a unique dining experience. After a very cold day of following the Lunar New Year Parade in Boston's Chinatown I was curious to try some dim sum in Empire Garden. ![]()
