![]() ![]() Rishi Sunak has full confidence in security minister Tom Tugendhat, Downing Street has said in response to allegations a parliamentary researcher accused of spying for China had close links to him. He said his message to Sir Keir would be: "If you only rely on not being a Conservative, you risk that election, so be bold." He also denied that his position on Labour differs with that of the general secretary of the TUC, who called for people to vote for the party in his speech this morning, saying: "What we're both saying is we need this rotten government out, and I want a Labour government." He wants Labour to offer things like free school meals, investment in the NHS and teachers, and to say they will clamp down on tax evasion. He called on Labour to present a vision that will "enthuse" people, adding: "What we don't need is people being cautious." "If Labour are currently saying 'we're making a tough choice' not to tax the rich more but to force people with more than two children to live in poverty, then they're making the wrong tough choice and he needs to do something about that," he said. He said that he wants Sir Keir Starmer to "offer a vision to people as to why people should vote for Labour that is more than just 'we're better than the Conservatives'". Our chief political correspondent Jon Craig is at the conference, and he just spoke to Mark Serwotka, leader of the civil service union PCS, about his position on the Labour Party, of which he is a member but has been critical. Conference season is getting under way this week, starting with the Trades Union Congress, which is taking place in Liverpool this week. ![]()
